Wellbeing

Our school community's mental health and well-being is our top priority. This page aims to provide you with links to services as well as the tips for how you can support your child and family at home. Whilst caring for others, it is important to ensure your own health and well-being needs are being met.

We are delighted to introduce our Pastoral Lead, Mrs Kettink, who will be on hand to help families with parenting support and general advice.

We are proud to have our own Senior Mental Health Lead Nina Xerri.  Miss Xerri has designed a nurture programme for the school and you can find out all about it in this handy guide

On these pages, you will find advice, guidance and links on how to look after yours and your family's mental health and well-being.

We are pleased to offer support for our children and families through the Primary Mental Health Team.  Our designated worker, Emily Huynh  can offer 1 to 1 or group sessions, parent workshop and guidance on a range of topics that affect our community.

NURTURE PROVISION AT ST MARK'S

whole school nurture provision brochure 1 .pdf

The Nurture Provision at St Marks CE Primary School was introduced to ensure that the needs of all learners were met throughout their educational journey. Not all children are ready to meet the social and intellectual demands of school life. Research shows that a child is able to learn best when they have strong self-esteem, a sense of belonging and resilience. Nurture groups offer a short-term focused intervention which addresses barriers to learning arising from social or emotional difficulties. Nurture groups were originally developed in 1969 by educational psychologist Marjorie Boxall, who famously said: “If the child is unable to adjust to the needs of the school, then the school must adjust to meet the needs of the child.”

It was recognised, by senior leaders and other staff members, that some students needed alternative sessions with a focus on social and emotional literacy. The idea of the Nurture provision came from a desire to be able to fully meet these student’s needs, whilst maintaining the high aspiration and fulfilment of potential that we have for all students.

Our Nurture provision works with children across the school to reach the following objectives:

  • Improve and promote accessibility to their learning and improve attainment
  • Support students’ self-esteem, resilience and self-confidence
  • Improve social skills and team work skills
  • Provide the tools for emotional regulation and positive communication
  • Meet the needs of and improve mental health
  • Build strong friendships between peers
  • Give children the opportunity for reflection, deeper discussion and tailored support

The aims of our Nurture Provision at St Marks CE Primary School

At St Marks, we have built our nurture provision based on the 6 provisions of Nurture:
